Who we are

Yaz Al-Shaater and Tom Crawshaw at Underground's Launch Party 2006

Underground Venues was founded in 2005 by the Buxton-based theatre company Three's Company, to provide a home for the best quality entertainment at the Buxton Fringe – both local, national and international.

Our wide-ranging holistic programme offers the best for all ages and tastes across theatre, comedy, music, storytelling, puppetry, magic, performance art, dance and circus. With a full- time box office, information desk, Fringe Club we aim to create an unforgettable atmosphere in the heart of Buxton each July.

This year, Underground are running four performance spaces.

Our original two spaces under the Old Hall Hotel, in the centre of town, will be joined by two exciting new spaces just over the road. The Arts Centre Studio and Arts Centre Auditorium will host some of the larger acts of the Fringe, the perfect complement to our current programme.

Our programme runs from Wednesday 6th - Sunday 24th July, with live entertainment, music and partying from 11am to 1am.

“It's a mark of the success of Underground Venues that it's become a place to simply hang out during the Fringe, day or night.”

Robbie Carnegie, Buxton Fringe Review

2010 saw our most successful Fringe with over 60 shows which were seen by an eager 3900+ audience members. Our programme picked up 5 awards from the Buxton Fringe (Best Production, Best Actor, Best New Writing, Best Comedy Show and Best Comedy Performer). We're looking forward to topping that experience in 2011 for our spectacular 6th year.

“Underground Venues is adept at finding new talent, sometimes so new that it hasn't even found a name for itself.”

Stephanie Billen, Chair of the Buxton Fringe
