The Pauper's Pit

Associated with Buxton Opera House as part of its studio season, The Pauper's Pit is the only other dedicated theatre space in Buxton. Since its fairly recent creation in the late 90s 'the pit' has rapidly become associated with dynamic, groundbreaking theatre and continues to push the boundaries of the Buxton cultural scene.

In recent years The Pauper's Pit has become home to Buxton's only cinema and the Fringe's only permanent theatre space, making it host to a variety of genres, mediums and moods. The highly intimate feel of the space is well suited to productions which have a powerful effect on the audience - be it tragic, dramatic or comic.

“The intimacy means the audience is thrown into the centre of the performance.”
